Dear Reader,

There was a time beauty was judged purely by what we could see. Today, however, the conversation runs much deeper. It sits in the ingredients list, the intent behind a formulation, and the impact it leaves behind.

In this issue, we turn our attention to clean beauty and sustainability, two ideas that are steadily shaping how the professional beauty industry thinks and functions. What once felt like a niche interest has found its way into everyday decisions, influencing everything from product shelves to service menus.

Our cover story reveals how this shift is far from straightforward. In India, clean beauty is still taking shape, guided less by fixed definitions or what is expected, and more by trust, transparency, and results. Clients are asking better questions; they are reading labels, weighing claims, and expecting clarity. That quiet shift in awareness is reaffirming the decision for more sustainable practices.

Across these pages, one thing becomes clear: sustainability is no longer a line in a marketing brief. It is a working practice, one that often requires compromise, adjustment, and patience. Salons are balancing conscious choices with cost; brands are rethinking formulations and sourcing with greater care. The idea that responsibility and profitability must sit on opposite ends no longer holds. Both can, and must, work in tandem.

Our conversations with industry voices reflect this balance. There is the ongoing effort to maintain performance while making care more responsible; there is a stronger call for transparency. And there is a noticeable shift in routines, where minimalism is gaining ground, and is driven by efficacy rather than excess.

At the same time, the conversation has moved beyond products. It now includes the way spaces are built, how resources are used, and how services are delivered. In spas and wellness, there is a visible move towards systems that reduce waste while still delivering results clients can see and feel.

What stands out most is this: the move towards sustainability is not about getting everything right at once. It is about steady progress, thoughtful decisions, and a willingness to do better, one day at a time. The fact is that the future of beauty will rest on what is consistent and credible.
