In a market long shaped by global influence, AMINU is taking a different approach. Co-founded by Prachi Bhandari and Aman Mohunta, the brand places Indian skin, climate, and lived experience at the centre of its thinking, a shift that feels both grounded and commercially sharp.
At a time when premium skincare in India is still heavily influenced by international benchmarks, AMINU is building a business that relies on local insight as its core advantage. The focus is clear: create products that are relevant to Indian conditions and build a brand that professionals trust over time.
A PHILOSOPHY BUILT ON CARE, NOT TRENDS
For Bhandari, AMINU began as a personal inquiry rather than a business plan. “It all started with my love for skin as an organ long before it became about building a skincare brand,” she says. And it’s this perspective that informs the brand’s core philosophy. “Skincare should work with skin’s intelligence, not against it. It should support repair, reduce unnecessary stress, strengthen communication, and help skin function better over time.”
This approach also shapes AMINU’s product strategy. Instead of building a large catalogue, the brand focuses on fewer, more considered products that deliver consistent results. “We are not trying to create products that just feel premium in the moment but trying to create a more intelligent skincare culture.”
From a business lens, this translates into slower launches, tighter portfolios, and stronger product retention. It also allows the brand to build deeper credibility with salon partners who prioritise performance over novelty.
DESIGNED FOR INDIAN SKIN
AMINU’s point of difference lies in how it views the Indian consumer. Bhandari believes the gap in the market was deeper than product availability. “I did not think Indian skin, Indian professionals, or Indian consumers were being respected enough,” she says.
The brand recognises that Indian skin operates in a specific environment and formulas need to take this into consideration. Everyday realities directly influence treatment outcomes and product performance. “Indian skin lives a very particular life. Heat, humidity, pollution, UV exposure, hard water, stress. We do not experience skin in laboratory conditions but experience it in real life.”
This understanding shapes both formulation and positioning. AMINU products are built from the ground up for Indian conditions, rather than adapted from global templates. “I wanted to build a brand that came from inside that reality instead of translating it later.”
The “Made in India” identity strengthens this approach. “Proudly Made in India, not just because it is made here, but because it is imagined from here,” Bhandari says. “When something feels made for your skin, your climate, your concerns, and your pace of life, it lands differently.” From a market perspective, this creates a strong point of differentiation.
BUILDING TRUST THROUGH DEPTH AND DISCIPLINE
Positioning an Indian brand in the premium segment requires more than strong formulations. It also involves addressing long-standing perception gaps. “You are not entering a neutral room,” Bhandari says. “You are entering a room where the hierarchy is already written.” And AMINU’s response has been to focus on clarity, consistency, and communication.
Operational control is another important factor. “Quality is created in the boring stage. In the unglamorous stage,” she says. “Ingredient grades, stability, oxidation, batch behaviour. This is the real work.” This level of involvement supports both quality and scalability. It ensures that as the brand grows, product performance remains consistent.
Product development follows a similar discipline. It begins with real problems rather than trends. “My instinct always starts with a problem that feels real and unresolved,” Bhandari explains. While salon feedback informs decisions, the brand avoids reacting to short-term demand. “Market demand will tell you what is loud. It does not always tell you what is lasting.”
For salon partnerships, this translates into a relationship-led model. “We do not approach them like sales targets,” she says. “We approach them like professionals whose intelligence matters. Trust is built through consistency.”
THE TAKEAWAY
For AMINU, premium is defined by thought, clarity, and intent. It is a model that values depth over speed and relevance over replication. As India’s beauty market continues to grow, brands that are built on local understanding and operational discipline are likely to stand out. And AMINU is positioning itself firmly within that space.
