Mumbai witnessed an unusual drop in temperature this year, a rare phenomenon for the city. Along with the pleasant chill came a familiar set of winter woes: dry skin, rough hair texture, and brittle nails. While moisturisers, serums, spas, and masks offer ample solutions for hair and skin, nails are often left to routine manicures and pedicures that fall short during colder months.
Recognising this gap, the Professional Beauty India team, in association with Enrich Salon, introduced a Winter Special Nail Care Regime, the Hot Oil Manicure, across Enrich salons in Mumbai. While this treatment is common in colder regions of the country, it has remained relatively niche in Mumbai due to the city’s typically humid climate. This winter, however, my nails demanded more than usual care.
I experienced the hot oil manicure at the salon’s Bandra outlet, where I was warmly welcomed by Dr Vinaya Bagwe, Technical Head – Skin, Enrich Salon, along with her team. Before the service began, Dr Bagwe walked me through the process, explaining how heat helps oils penetrate deeper into the nail plate and cuticles, delivering intense nourishment, exactly what winter-stressed nails require.
The treatment itself felt instantly comforting. Warm oil was gently massaged into my nails, cuticles, hands, and forearms using slow, circular strokes. The experience was indulgent and purposeful. The warmth helped release tension, while the subtle aroma of the oil added a calming, spa-like dimension. I could feel the oil gradually sinking in, soothing skin that had been feeling tight and dry for weeks.
Immediately after the manicure, my nails felt silky smooth and noticeably hydrated. The cuticles were soft, pliable, and free from that uncomfortable pulling sensation common in winter. Visibly, the flaky, whitish patches around the nail bed had reduced, and the skin appeared plumper and healthier. The overall look of my nails felt more even, nourished, and cared for.
In the days following the treatment, I noticed less splitting and improved flexibility in my nails. And while one session is not a miracle cure, the deep hydration did make a tangible difference. My cuticles stayed soft, significantly reducing the chances of hangnails, an understated but welcome benefit.
Would I recommend a hot oil manicure as a winter essential? Without hesitation. Cold air and low humidity strip moisture from nails, leading to dryness, cracking, and discomfort. This treatment delivers deep nourishment, improves circulation, and offers a moment of relaxation during an otherwise harsh season. It is a simple, effective, and affordable ritual for anyone looking to keep their nails healthy and winter ready.
