WHEN PASSION Finds GLOBALPURPOSE

In an exclusive interview with Priyanka Parshurami, 22-year-old make-up artist, Tehesin Suttar, reflects on her journey from a childhood passion to representing India on an international stage at WorldSkills Asia, marking a defining milestone in her professional career.

Age has never been a limiting factor for Tehesin Suttar. At just 22, she has already carved a distinct identity within India’s professional beauty landscape. What began as an early fascination with make-up gradually evolved into a clear career path. “It has always been my passion. From a very young age, I loved applying make-up. Over time, I realised it was more than a hobby. I had to pursue it professionally,” she shares.

Her journey has been deeply inspired by Huda Kattan, Founder, Huda Beauty. “I have followed her journey for years. She started young, became a make-up artist, and went on to build a global brand. Her story encouraged me to dream beyond boundaries,” says Suttar.

LEARNING THE CRAFT: EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Formal training played a crucial role in shaping her discipline and approach. She pursued a BVoc degree from Symbiosis International University, Pune, where she received structured exposure to make-up, hair, and skincare through both theoretical and practical learning. “It taught me professionalism. Internships during the course gave me invaluable real-world experience,” she notes.

Post graduation, her focus shifted decisively towards competitive excellence. She joined the LTA School of Beauty to prepare for national and international skills competitions. “The level of training and professionalism there pushed me to refine my techniques and build confidence under pressure,” she explains.

WINNING BRONZE AT INDIA AKILLS

Her breakthrough moment came at IndiaSkills. Winning at Maharashtra Skills came as a surprise, but the national competition that followed tested her resilience. With barely a week of preparation while simultaneously completing an internship in Mumbai at Love Child by Masaba, Suttar went on to secure a bronze medal. “Standing on that stage and receiving the medal was surreal. It validated every hour of practice and sacrifice,” she recalls.

Competing at that level demands PHYSICAL STRENGTH , mental RESILIENCE , discipline, and ABSOLUTE FOCUS . You represent your country, and that RESPONSIBILITY CHANGES how you perform and think.

That win paved the way for her selection to represent India at WorldSkills Asia. Having now completed her international stint, Suttar describes the experience as transformative. “Competing at that level demands physical strength, mental resilience, discipline, and absolute focus. You represent your country, and that responsibility changes how you perform and think,” she says.

Looking ahead, her aspirations extend beyond competition. Inspired by her role model, she envisions building a brand of her own. “I want to grow as a beauty entrepreneur someday. Competing internationally has broadened my perspective on what is possible,” she shares.

Her message to aspiring make-up artists is grounded and practical. “Make-up is not just a passion; it is a serious profession with global opportunities. Competitions help you gain visibility, credibility, and respect. Stay committed, keep learning, and believe in your abilities.”

Family support, she adds, has been a constant pillar. “My parents have always encouraged me to follow my dreams. They trusted my choices and never forced me onto conventional career paths.”

From experimenting with make-up as a child to representing India on an international platform, Tehesin Suttar’s journey reflects discipline, ambition, and purpose. Her story stands as a compelling reminder that with structured training, competitive exposure, and unwavering belief, passion can indeed find global expression.
